A Vulnerable Dog

 I really started to worry about my dog scratching herself when she would rub against the sofa, the kitchen table, the bed frame –
everywhere! I had expected moulting but when I took a close look at her skin I could see it was extremely dry
and irritated. Her coat was in a very bad state and there was lots of dandruff so I knew it wasn't normal
dry dog skin you might experience over winter.
I began using different shampoos and other hair treatments
during grooming but this didn't work so I went to see my vet. He recommended a change to my dog's diet and
suggested I invest in some supplements to help from the inside. He told me that during winter my home's
central heating and hormone levels changing, particularly in bitches, resulted in drying out the skin. I was
glad that it was nothing serious and easily treatable.
I didn't know that my dog's skin was vulnerable to drying out
especially from the use of shampoo. You shouldn't stop washing your dog's coat but you should certainly
counteract the effect shampoos have on the skin. I heeded the advice of my vet and bought dog supplements that contain oils to replace those on the skin that may be lost during
shampooing. Omega oils work to keep the skin healthy and there usually aren't high quantities of these oils in
dog foods.
As a result, the omega 3 and 6 kept my dog's skin healthy and
moisturised. In a matter of weeks the dryness had gone and the scratching stopped. I highly recommend these
supplements for any dog that might be experiencing irritation. I still use them in the summer and throughout
the year to keep my dog's skin healthy and her coat looking at its best. The supplements are easy to use and
hassle free with no side effects so there's nothing to worry about.
